Here are some frequently asked questions.

I am moving to the UK, how do I apply?

You will need to submit your resume and a detailed cover letter including your travel plans. Ensure to include whether your visa and/or passport are already issued and the date you plan to arrive. Register with us, or just email your application to; workintheuk@advantageresourcing.com

My visa and or/passport has not been issued yet, can I still express interest/apply?

What do I need to begin the application/registration process?

You will be invited by our international consultant to register after applying. To do this you will need to have obtained the right to work in the UK and be able to provide proof of this (copies of visa, passport, documentation), your flight/departure date will need to be set and confirmed.

What exactly is involved in registering?

Once the suitability of your experience has been identified by receipt of your application you will receive a follow up call from our international consultant for a confidential discussion. You will be asked to provide some information on your experience and plans and will be given the opportunity to ask any questions you have.

From here the registration process begins. This involves completion of; reference form, registration form, consent to privacy statement and copies of your passport & visa. On completion of these forms you will be invited to attend an interview; depending on your location this will take place in our office or via Skype. This process is then continues in the UK where you meet our London or Manchester consultants, complete some computer tests and from here your job hunt is well and truly underway.

What does the reference form involve?

All candidates working in London are required to provide reference contacts for the past 5 years of employment and education. Personal referees of high professional status are also required. You will be provided with a detailed referencing guide to assist you in providing the correct information. All references obtained are via email and confirm employment dates and position titles.

Unfortunately due to policy regulations we are unable to accept verbal or pre-written references.

How long does the registration process take?

This depends a lot on your speed in filling in your paperwork and your availability for the interview. On average, registration takes around one fortnight, however do avoid leaving it to the last minute as delays can occur. We recommend aiming to complete your registration at least a fortnight prior to your departure.

Does Advantage Professional guarantee me work?

We do not provide a guarantee. However we are purely dedicated to placing you in suitable employment during your stay.

Can I register in London when I arrive as opposed to from home?

You can, however this can delay your process and defeats the purpose of the international service.

Can you help my friend, travel companion and/or partner find work as well?

This will depend on their area of expertise and experience. Please mention this at the time you are enquiring for yourself. If we do not specialise in the field they work in we can recommend a suitable agency to assist them.

Does Advantage Professional arrange sponsorship for candidates that cannot obtain working rights?

Unfortunately, government legislation does not allow recruitment agencies to offer sponsorship to candidates.

How do I know if the UK employment market is strong? Can you provide me with advice and information?

Can you help me with arranging my UK bank account, housing accommodation, mobile phone sim and general relocation advice?

Yes we can. We have developed relationships with several reputable companies covering most aspects of relocating.

How long will it take me to find a suitable role?

This depends on several aspects some of which include.

  • Your availability, flexibility and response in communicating with your consultant.
  • The timing of your search matching with current availabilities.
  • The level of your experience and relevance to certain industry types.
  • The UK employment market.

What do I need in order to begin work?

In a snap shot you will require; A UK bank account, UK address (temporary or permanent), a completed P46 (tax document) which we will provide you with. You will also have fully completed your registration with Advantage Professional including your appointment with our London or Manchester office.

Do I need a national insurance number before I begin work?

No you do not; you can apply for this when you are offered an assignment. As you will need your National Insurance number in order to register with your local GP, we highly recommend that you arrange your appointment as soon as you have arrived in the UK. How much money do I need to bring with me?

This depends so much on your lifestyle; type of accommodation, area of living, how you spend your free time, etc. We highly recommend having sufficient funds for at least 2 months of life in the UK to ensure you are well and truly covered. Can I use my mobile phone in the UK?

Yes you can. As your mobile phone will have a lock on it from your provider, you will need to ensure that this lock is removed. You can do this by contacting your provider who will take care of the rest.
